THE CHALLENGE

Virtual Mindset approached CMH with a project for one of their clients. Their client owned a restaurant with an extensive list of specialty beverages, which changed on a daily basis. They were using paper menus, which had to be reprinted each day, and when a product was sold out for the day, they had no way to let the customers know until their server showed up to place the order. Virtual Mindset developed an online menu, and contracted with us to provide a secure, tablet based solution to accompany the new menu system.

THE REQUIREMENTS

Virtual Mindset was seeking a solution for their client, which would allow restaurant customers to securely access the online menu from a tablet placed at each table.

Seamless Rollout – The tablets needed to be preconfigured to connect to the locations Wi-Fi network, so they auto connected out of the box.

Security – The tablets had to be configured in “kiosk” mode, which prevented other tablet functions from being utilized by customers.

Protection – The tablets had to be protected by a hard case, to minimize damages to the device.

THE SOLUTION

Working with Virtual Mindset, we researched various tablet products and hard cases, and presented our recommendations based on usability, and client requirements. We settled on Apple iPad’s, and Otter Box cases. We procured the devices and cases, built a custom configuration for the client, including Wi-Fi credentials, native app restrictions, etc… We installed a “kiosk” mode application, and pushed the configs to all devices. The completed products were shipped to the location, and management was trained on the use.
